Brett is a founding partner of The Capital Advisory Group. He has been helping affluent investors execute financial strategies, meet income objectives and realize life visions for more than 30 years. Approachable, genuine, and down-to-earth, Brett holds himself to a higher standard of accountability and seeks to achieve positive financial results on behalf of each client.

Brett is informed, connected and was selected multiple times by the United States Department of Defense to attend the National Securities Forum along with representatives of our armed forces and Homeland Security. The program examined threats to our National Security and what can be done about them. From 2010 to 2012, Brett was the Honorary Commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing, Eglin AFB. In 2016, Brett was admitted to the Business Advisory Committee for Normandale College, Minnesota’s largest community college system.

Specializing in wealth management, asset accumulation and retirement income distribution strategies, Brett has a profound desire to understand the whole you. He uses an all-encompassing approach when building your financial plan, accounting for your beliefs, obligations, resources, risk tolerance, family dynamics and life aspirations. Brett studied at Fuqua School of Business, Duke University in their M.B.A. program in 1983 and attended MacMurray College where he earned his B.S. in Accounting, Business, and Economics. Brett was president of the Economics Society and graduated cum laude.

Machtig has authored several books, been featured on radio shows and appeared on national television programs including CNBC’s Your Money, PBS’ Financial Freedom and CNN’s Financial Update. Machtig lives in Bloomington, Minnesota and enjoys running, reading, writing and time with his family.
