Brett Machtig is a founding partner of The Capital Advisory Group, where he has been dedicated to helping affluent investors shape their financial futures for over 40 years. Known for his approachable and genuine nature, Brett holds himself to the highest accountability standards, aiming to achieve positive economic results for each client.
Brett’s expertise and unique approach to wealth management have earned him national recognition, with appearances on CNBC’s Your Money, PBS’s Financial Freedom, and CNN’s Financial Update. As a prolific author, he shares insights on investing, retirement planning, and financial strategy.
In addition to his work in financial services, Brett is well-informed and deeply connected. From 2011 to the present, he has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense to attend the National Securities Forum alongside representatives from the armed forces and Homeland Security to assess and address threats to national security. He also served as the Honorary Commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB from 2011 to 2012. Further reflecting his commitment to education and community, Brett has been a member of the Business Advisory Committee at Normandale College, Minnesota’s largest community college, since 2016.
Brett specializes in wealth management, asset accumulation, and retirement income strategies, bringing a comprehensive approach to financial planning. When creating each client’s financial plan, he considers the complete picture—beliefs, obligations, resources, risk tolerance, family dynamics, and life goals.
Brett studied at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in 1983 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Business, and Economics from MacMurray College, graduating cum laude and serving as President of the Economics Society.
Nikki Machtig also works with Brett at the Capital Advisory Group. They have two Havanese dogs named Tucker and Sage.
Roger Anderson CFP®
Roger manages assets and creates financial plans tailored to clients’ goals for a well-rounded approach.
For over 40 years, Roger Anderson, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, has helped clients reach their financial goals through personalized strategies in asset management, risk assessment, and estate planning. Guided by the CFP® Code of Ethics, Roger emphasizes integrity and a client-first approach in his work.
His clients include retirees, 401(k) and 403(b) participants, Fortune 500 executives, and working families. While his minimum account requirement is $100,000, he offers flexibility for referrals and flat-fee clients.
Roger takes the time to listen and understand each client’s unique needs. After a thorough financial analysis, he works with clients to develop and implement a custom plan, balancing investment opportunities with their risk tolerance. His approach includes reviewing and updating estate plans to ensure a smooth financial transition.* A Minneapolis native, Roger studied biology with minors in chemistry and math at Bemidji State University. He now lives in Minnetonka, enjoying various outdoor activities with his wife and two children.

Todd Morris

Originally from Faribault, Minnesota, Todd Morris earned a B.B.A. in Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of New Mexico’s Anderson School of Management. Now residing in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, with his wife, Christina, and daughter, Avrie, Todd enjoys outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and sports and loves creating new adventures with his family. With over 24 years of experience, Todd is passionate about helping clients reach their financial goals. He values meeting clients from all backgrounds and learning from each interaction.
Todd focuses on making clients’ money work as efficiently as possible, whether for education funding, tax-efficient investing, or asset protection.

Michael Ruggieri
Michael brings a meticulous eye for detail and a passion for empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions.
Michael Ruggieri is a Financial Advisor and the Chief Compliance Officer for The Capital Advisory Group (CAG), bringing a wealth of experience and a meticulous approach to compliance and client support. Prior to joining United Planners in 2014, Michael held various roles across the financial industry. He was an educator at the University of Phoenix and a Regional Supervision Analyst for AIG Group, SagePoint Financial, and Royal Alliance Securities. His experience includes years with Vanguard Group and working as an alternative investment analyst with Charles Schwab.
Michael served at United Planners as Brett Machtig’s Home Office Supervisor until joining CAG in 2023 as a Financial Advisor. Michael’s extensive background brings a unique blend of academic insight and practical industry experience to his role.
Michael recently co-authored the book Retirement Unlocked, offering practical guidance to retirees on avoiding psychological biases that can cloud judgment and derail financial plans, helping them pursue a less stressful retirement.
Michael lives in the Phoenix, Arizona, area and oversees The Capital Advisory Group’s Phoenix location. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors.
